In order to check the compliance of the technical characteristics of the device under study with the required standards and to make sure that it is capable of solving the tasks assigned to it, it is necessary to analyze all modes of operation of this device. This task can require a wide variety of measurements, from simple rise time and pulse width checks to complex insertion loss analysis and noise source investigations. The Tektronix MDO3000 Series oscilloscopes offer a comprehensive suite of built-in analysis tools, including waveform and screen-tethered cursors, automated measurements, advanced math features including an equation editor, histogram building, Fast Fourier Transform, and trend charts to visually determine how results change over time.

Automated measurements made with the Tektronix MDO3000 provide highly reproducible statistical representations of signal characteristics
Based on the results of automated measurements made with the Tektronix MDO3000, statistical representations of signal characteristics can be obtained with high reproducibility.

Signal histograms give a visual representation of how signals change over time. Horizontal waveform histograms are useful for analyzing jitter in a clock signal and the distribution of jitter. Vertical histograms are used to analyze the noise in the clock signal and the distribution of the noise. Based on histogram measurements taken with the Tektronix MDO3000, analytical information about the distribution of the histogram of the signal is obtained, allowing you to accurately determine the distribution width, standard deviation, mean, and other values.

Built-in spectrum analyzer (included as standard)

The MDO3000 Series Oscilloscope is the first oscilloscope in its class to include a professional spectrum analyzer. Each oscilloscope in this series contains a spectrum analyzer operating from 9 kHz to the upper end of the model's bandwidth. The frequency range of any spectrum analyzer model can be extended up to 3 GHz (Option MDO3SA) to perform spectrum analysis on most wireless standards.

When using the RF input of the spectrum analyzer, the display of the MDO3000 Series oscilloscope changes to a full-screen display of the waveforms in the frequency domain. All key spectrum parameters such as center frequency, span, reference level and resolution bandwidth are easily and quickly configured using dedicated front panel menu buttons and keypad.

The MDO3000 Series oscilloscopes display spectra as a spectrogram, which is ideal for tracking slowly changing events in RF signals. The X-axis represents the frequency values (as in a normal spectrum graph), the Y-axis represents the time, and the color indicates the amplitude.

Tektronix MDO3000 Series oscilloscopes provide three types of automated RF measurements: channel power, adjacent channel power factor, and occupied bandwidth. When any of these measurement modes is activated, the oscilloscope automatically switches to the spectrum display mode and the "Average" detection method to optimize the measurement results.

Built into Tektronix MDO3000 oscilloscopes complete spectrum analyzer significantly expands the scope of useful application of this device. Since many modern devices contain a radio path, you need to make measurements not only in the time domain, but also in the frequency domain. At the same time, traditional FFT-based solutions are of little use, since they have a very low sensitivity. This video demonstrates the use of the spectrum analyzer built into the MDO3000.

Serial triggered protocol analyzer (optional)

A serial bus signal typically contains an address, control information, data, and a clock frequency, making it difficult to interpret the image on the oscilloscope screen and isolate events of interest. Automatic triggering, decoding, and searching for events and conditions on serial bus signals provides a robust set of serial bus debugging tools. With the appropriate option, the MDO3000 Series can automatically capture, decode, and analyze serial communication protocols: I2C, SPI, RS-232/422/485/UART, USB 2.0, CAN, LIN, FlexRay, MILSTD-1553, audio buses, and others.
