Anritsu MG362x1A series of RF and microwave signal generators up to 70 GHz

Anritsu MG362x1A series of RF signal generators

Brief description of the series

High-frequency signal generators of the Anritsu MG362x1A series, even in the basic configuration, are distinguished by the purity of the output signal and the stability of its frequency. If it is necessary to further improve these parameters, the generators can be equipped with additional options. One such option adds a built-in rubidium reference oscillator with an accuracy better than 0.001 ppm.

The series consists of three models: MG36221A (up to 20 GHz), MG36241A (up to 43.5 GHz) and MG36271A (up to 70 GHz). With the help of additional frequency multipliers, the operating range of these generators can be increased to 1 100 GHz. A full description of all the characteristics of the Anritsu MG362x1A series can be downloaded below on this page in the Documentation section.

Signal purity

Even in their basic configuration, the Anritsu MG362x1A series generators surpass many competing models in terms of output signal purity. The main characteristic of signal purity is the value of phase noise (SSB phase noise) at different offsets from the carrier. This figure shows phase noise plots for several operating frequencies ranging from 100 MHz to 70 GHz.

If there is a need to further improve signal purity, the MG362x1A series generators can be equipped with three additional options: 3, 13 and 23. Separately, it is worth noting option 33, which improves phase noise and does not require a special export license. This figure shows phase noise graphs with option 13 installed.

Frequency stability

In the basic configuration, Anritsu MG362x1A generators provide long-term frequency stability of 0.5 ppm per year. This parameter can be significantly increased by synchronizing from an external frequency standard or by installing additional options in the generator. Option 56 adds a built-in rubidium frequency standard with long-term stability of 0.001 ppm per year and short-term stability of 0.000008 ppm per 100 seconds.

Also, to improve frequency accuracy, option 66 is assigned, which adds the ability to adjust the internal reference oscillator using the GPS signal. This completely compensates for the frequency drift of the reference oscillator over time. This photo shows an Anritsu MG362x1A series generator with option 66 installed and the antenna used to receive the GPS signal.

Case design

Structurally, all models of high-frequency generators of the Anritsu MG362x1A series are made in a classic desktop case. It can be placed directly on the laboratory bench or mounted in a rack (option 1 or option 11 is required for rack installation). The dimensions of the generator housing are 483×133×552 mm with a weight of 20.5 kg.

On the rear panel of the generators there are communication interfaces for connecting to a computer, as well as many additional connectors: synchronization, modulation, intermediate frequencies, etc. The appearance of the rear panel is shown in this photo.
