SHORT DESCRIPTION
Oscilloscope Series Tektronix MSO 6 contain 4 analog channels with a very low level of self-noise. Depending on the model, the bandwidth is: 1 GHz, 2.5 GHz, 4 GHz, 6 GHz or 8 GHz. The bandwidth can be extended up to 8 GHz at any time with the purchase of a software key. Each of the oscilloscope's four channels provides a sampling rate of 25 GS/s. The hardware resolution of the ADC is 12 bits at 4 GHz, ramping up to 16 bits at 200 MHz.
When you connect the TLP058 probe to any of the oscilloscope's analog channels, that channel becomes 8 digital channels. This technology is called FlexChannel. With its help, simply by changing the probes of the oscilloscope, you can get the necessary combination of analog channels (up to 4 pcs.) And digital channels (up to 32 pcs.). This flexibility significantly reduces the cost of the measuring system, while increasing its ability to develop and debug complex electronic devices.
Another feature of the Tektronix MSO6 series oscilloscopes is a very large and high-quality touch screen with a diagonal of 39.6 cm and a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. Well thought-out knobs and control buttons, combined with a multi-touch touch display, make it very easy and quick to set up and analyze measurement results.
In addition to the benefits listed above, Tektronix MSO6 oscilloscopes offer many innovative features, such as the ability to detect very short waveform events with continuous waveform capture rates of over 500,000 waveforms per second. You can download a full description of all the characteristics of these oscilloscopes below on this page in the section Documentation.

Tektronix MSO 6 Series Precision Oscilloscope Video Review
This video highlights six key features of the new Tektronix MSO 6 oscilloscopes: the ability to increase bandwidth to 8 GHz at any time, low self-noise and high amplitude accuracy, ease of use, advanced measurement and analysis modes, quality and variety of compatible probes, and a wide range of expansion options, including a built-in digital voltmeter and standard function and signal generator.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
In 2017, Tektronix launched an innovative series of 8-channel oscilloscopes MSO5 that support FlexChannel technology, which converts any analog oscilloscope channel into 8 digital channels with a simple probe change. The MSO5 Series oscilloscopes have a maximum bandwidth of 2 GHz and a sample rate of 6.25 GS/s per channel.
The new Tektronix MSO6 series, released in 2018, continues this promising direction. The MSO6 Series oscilloscopes have a maximum bandwidth of 8 GHz and a sample rate of 25 GS/s per channel. Each analog channel in the MSO6 series supports FlexChannel digital probing technology. Input signals with a bandwidth of up to 4 GHz are digitized using a 12-bit ADC, and the minimum level of intrinsic noise is ensured by the use of specialized TEK061 microcircuits.
On the left of this photo is a Tektronix MSO58 eight-channel oscilloscope at 2 GHz, and on the right is a four-channel Tektronix MSO64 oscilloscope at 8 GHz. Both series are made in the same cases, have the same controls and user interface.
High signal digitization accuracy and low self-noise
Each channel of the Tektronix MSO6 Series oscilloscope contains an individual 12-bit ADC. At sample rates less than 12.5 GS/s and High Res mode enabled, the number of bits of vertical resolution increases even more and reaches 16 bits at 625 MS/s. This high resolution ADC allows you to see much more signal details than other oscilloscopes equipped with 8-bit ADCs.
In addition to high resolution, the input paths of the Tektronix MSO6 oscilloscopes offer high accuracy of 1% at 50 Ω input resistance and 0.5% at 1 MΩ input resistance.
Another advantage that the MSO6 series boasts is the low noise level of the oscilloscope input paths, which is very important in a number of applications, for example, when analyzing ripple on microprocessor and microcontroller power rails. This was made possible by the use of a specially designed TEK061 low-noise integrated circuit in each channel. The photo below shows the appearance of this microcircuit, as well as the values of the oscilloscope's own noise in microvolts, depending on the selected bandwidth and vertical sensitivity.
Serial triggered protocol analyzer (optional)
Tektronix MSO6 oscilloscopes provide a comprehensive set of tools for capturing and decoding serial bus signals. You can trigger the oscilloscope on a combination of events, or on a specific sequence of data or addresses sent over the bus. The MSO6 oscilloscopes also provide the means to quickly and automatically find patterns of interest in large amounts of stored data.
With the appropriate option, the MSO6 series can automatically capture, decode and analyze the following serial communication protocols: I2C, SPI, USB 2.0, Ethernet, CAN, LIN, FlexRay, RS-232/422/485/UART, I2S, LJ , RJ, TDM, SPMI and others. See the full list of supported standards below on this page in the section Options and accessories.
In addition to serial bus operation, MSO6 oscilloscopes support up to 32 lines of parallel bus operation. Parallel bus support is a standard feature on MSO6 oscilloscopes and includes triggering, capturing, decoding, and analyzing bus digital sequences.
FlexChannel technology - any analog channel can work as 8 digital channels
This innovative technology is included in all Tektronix professional oscilloscopes in the MSO4, MSO5 and MSO6. With FlexChannel technology, any of the Tektronix MSO analog channels can be converted to 8 digital channels by simply connecting the TLP058 probe. This allows you to add the required number of digital channels right in the process of work: up to 32 pieces with 4-channel models, up to 48 pieces with 6-channel models and up to 64 pieces with 8-channel models. This video shows how it works using the MSO5 8-channel oscilloscope as an example.
Advanced Power Supply and Power Component Analysis (Option 6-PWR)
Most electronic devices include power components: transistors, pulse converters, linear stabilizers, transformers, etc. Analyzing the operation of these components in terms of the electrical energy transmitted through them is an important and at the same time complex task.
With the 6-PWR option for the Tektronix MSO6 Series oscilloscope and the appropriate probes (current, differential, high voltage), the issue of analyzing and optimizing power components is greatly simplified. With the automated capabilities of the 6-PWR option, you can measure: power rail quality, ripple, slew currents, harmonics, switching loss, safe operating area (SOA), efficiency, modulation, slew rates (dv/dt and di/dt), as well as characteristics of magnetic components.
This Tektronix MSO6 oscilloscope screenshot shows the 6-PWR option in operation. The lower part displays the waveforms on the power element, the central part contains the harmonics, and the upper part contains a table with parameters important for the analysis and optimization of power devices.
Detailed information on the big screen
The MSO6 Series oscilloscopes are equipped with a very large 39.6 cm touch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 dots. Thanks to this screen, you can see the signals with amazing detail.
As an example, this photo shows the screen of a Tektronix MSO6 series oscilloscope. It simultaneously displays: signals of four input channels, the result of a mathematical operation on the signals of two channels, as well as a trend graph.
State of the art communication interfaces
Tektronix MSO6 oscilloscopes come standard with all the interfaces you need to remotely control these instruments or integrate them into automated measurement systems. This photo shows a fragment of the back panel of the MSO6 oscilloscope, which contains the following communication interfaces: Ethernet with LXI support, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, Display Port, DVI-D and VGA. Above the communication interfaces is a function generator output (option 5-AFG) and a 10 MHz external clock input.
