Fujikura 62S Universal Fusion Splicer

SHORT DESCRIPTION

Fujikura 62S is a new model fiber splicer with core alignment Japanese company Fujikura. This device has been sold in Ukraine since 2016. The Fujikura 62S model is produced in addition to the top model 80S and differs from it in the display, the design of the windproof cover and the heater. In addition, the price of the 62S model is slightly lower than that of the 80S model. Otherwise, they are very similar.

Fujikura 62S splices any type of fiber with minimal losses even in difficult conditions (low temperature, extreme heat, humidity, wind), while the welder is unpretentious and very reliable in operation. Service life, even in the most severe conditions, exceeds 10 years. Very cheap consumables: a pair of electrodes ELCT2-20A, designed for 5000 welds, costs only $60 (about 1 cent per weld).

When buying a welding machine, it can be carried out education (theory + practice) with the issuance of a personal certificate. Also note that on the basis of Tehencom LLC in Kyiv, Fujikura Authorized Service Center.

In addition, Fujikura releases the most automated model of the core convergence splicer: Fujikura 80S. The 62S uses a conventional tray-shaped heat shrink oven and a classic windproof lid that must be manually opened and closed. And the 80S model uses a high-speed oven that compresses the sleeve during heat shrinkage. Also in the 80S model, the opening and closing of the windshield is automated. Therefore, the 80S works faster, which is interesting for very large volumes of work. But the most important thing in the devices is the system of alignment and welding of fibers, and it is the same in models 62S and 80S.

2017 Fujikura welding machine lineup

This video review presents the 2017 lineup of Fujikura fiber splicers. Given the needs of our market, for this review we have selected the four most popular models that are always in stock in our warehouse in Kyiv. These are the models: 12S, 22S, 62S and 80S. We will tell you about the main features of these devices and what tasks each of the models is intended for.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE FUJIKURA 62S FIBER WELDING MACHINE

For experienced welders who strive for maximum automation and speed of work, a model is produced Fujikura 80S, and for welders who prefer the classic design of the machine with a manually opened windshield and heater, the Fujikura 62S is available.

There are three other small differences between the 62S and 80S. First: The 62S uses a horizontal display layout, while the 80S uses a vertical display. Second A: 62S uses universal fiber clamps, which can put 0.25mm bare fiber, 0.9mm, 2mm and 3mm buffered fiber, Drop Cable (noodle) and other types. Third: due to additional optimization, it was possible to increase the resource of standard electrodes ELCT2-20A up to 5000 welds. In all other respects, the 62S and 80S are the same and are positioned as the best solution for all types of networks, including backbones.

Fujikura 62S ensures perfect welding quality

The most important thing when splicing optical fibers is to get the minimum splice loss. And devices Fujikura 62S and Fujikura 80S perfectly fulfill this task. The figure below shows the results of sixty test welds that were made in the laboratory using the 80S, 22S and 12S machines (20 welds per machine). The results of models 62S and 80S are combined because these models use the same fiber alignment and splicing system. The real losses that were obtained during welding were measured using an accurate laboratory optical loss meter.

As can be seen from these graphs, the 80S (and therefore also the 62S) made 12 splices with 0.01 dB splice loss and 8 splices with 0.02 dB splice loss. Nearly perfect values!

Operating the Fujikura 62S

Fujikura has been a leader in the design and manufacture of the finest optical fiber splicers for over 30 years. Thanks to this experience, all machine controls and the user interface are optimized and simplified to the maximum so that the welder is comfortable to work with. The main functions of the device (starting welding, turning on the stove, etc.) are activated by separate buttons, and functions that are rarely used are activated using a well-thought-out and completely Russified menu.

Fujikura 62S wind cover design

In fiber optic splicers, a windshield is used to protect the arc from air currents that can dislodge or make it unstable. When comparing the cover of model 62S and older model FSM-60S, then a significant reduction in its size is noticeable, which is convenient when laying the fibers, since the lid takes up little space when open.

Fujikura 62S Heater Design

Stable and high-quality shrinkage of KDZS protective sleeves is a very important characteristic of the device. Moreover, in reality, the cheapest sleeves are widely used, which are made from low-quality materials and often do not shrink or, on the contrary, are strongly melted or bent after heat shrinkage.

The heater design of all Fujikura welding machines ensures maximum comfort with any type of sleeves, and the Fujikura 62S heat shrink oven continues this tradition. It closes easily when laying the fiber with the sleeve on in the tray. Perfectly protects the sleeve from the wind during heat shrinkage, which is very important when working outdoors, especially in cold weather. The tray cover is made of a special material that prevents the sleeve from sticking.

The heat shrink time of the Fujikura 62S model depends on the type of sleeve, which is selected in the machine's menu and ranges from 15 to 25 seconds.

Universal clamps (holders) of optical fiber CLAMP-S21A of Fujikura 62S

The Fujikura 62S machine uses CLAMP-S21A universal clamps that allow you to install and splice fibers in various types of buffer coating: bare optical fiber in varnish 0.25 mm, pigtails in a sheath 0.9 mm, patch cords in a sheath 2 and 3 mm, Drop Cable (noodles) and other types.

For comfortable work with pigtails in a free buffer of 0.9 mm, a special modification of clamps with increased clamping force is produced: CLAMP-S21B. These additional clamps are included in the maximum package Fujikura 62S "Kit-A" Plus.

The clamps in the Fujikura 62S can be easily removed, for example, if you want to install the detachable holders of the Fujikura 62S series. Fujikura FH-60. You can also swap the holders if you prefer to work with the device not from the display side, but from the heater side.

The Fujikura 62S uses a high-capacity Li-ion battery BTR-09

Of the characteristics that Fujikura 62S pleases with, it is worth noting a high-quality Li-ion battery BTR-09 increased capacity. By installing this battery in the welder, the Fujikura 62S can perform about 200 heat shrink welds. There is an LED indicator on the battery case, with which you can quickly check the level of remaining charge.

Innovative design of the case and mounting table of the Fujikura 62S welding machine

The Fujikura 62S flight case helps protect the machine and accessories from damage, and effectively organizes the welding workspace. Its design makes it possible to splice fibers without even removing the device from the case, which can be very convenient in many real situations.

Everything that fits compactly in a case, individually looks like this. Also in the case there is a place for a case with a cleaver (CT-30A or CT-06A) and additional power cords DCC-12 and DCC-13. When the case lid is closed, it presses the device tightly, so that nothing wobbles inside the case during transport.
