SHORT DESCRIPTION

Japanese company Anritsu introduced new improved models professional optical reflectometers MT9083A2, MT9083B2 and MT9083C2. These OTDRs now feature a 17.8cm indoor/outdoor display, extended battery life (up to 12 hours), extended operating temperature range (-10 to +50°C), and new function keys for faster operation.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Optical fibers are the main transmission medium of modern telecommunications systems, including access networks such as FTTx, cable TV, and optical LANs. In addition, core and backbone networks use long fibers, while access networks use short ones.

With flexible built-in functions, the OTDR series ACCESS Master offers an ideal solution for efficient testing during construction and maintenance of optical fibers. The remarkably light and compact body houses a fully featured OTDR plus an optical tester, as well as quality measurement functions. With dimensions of 28.4 cm x 20 cm x 7.7 cm and a weight of 2.6 kg, as well as a fairly robust housing, the device is specifically designed for use in the field. By adding the options of a power meter and a visible light source to this excellent OTDR, you can reduce the number of instruments that are typically required for measurements.

Two modes of operation of optical reflectometers

While many OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers) provide either good dead zone performance or wide dynamic range, the MT9083 series offers both modes of operation in a single instrument. Depending on the current task, the user will be able to select the mode HIGH RESOLUTION (HR) or EXTENDED RANGE (ER). When the HR mode is selected, the device provides a good dynamic measurement range with a minimum dead zone (less than 1 meter). Selecting the ER mode provides excellent performance in terms of range, measurement speed and dead zone: a 100 km fiber can be tested in less than 10 seconds. ER mode is also used to test PON networks with up to 128 spurs.

Also, the Anritsu MT9083C series of optical reflectometers allows you to obtain reflectograms containing up to 150,001 points, which provides better than 2 meters distance resolution on fibers over 200 km.

 

Improved analysis of short fibers

With a reflection dead zone of less than 1 m (80 cm typical) and 5 cm reading resolution, the MT9083 OTDRs easily evaluate connections and diagnose discontinuities in PBX wiring, FTTx, SCS, and other types of short networks, providing a level of detail never seen before .

Testing fibers over 200 km

The Anritsu MT9083 Series in Extended Range (ER) mode, using a 100 ns pulse, provides excellent dynamic range while maintaining a low dead zone to clearly display multiple closely spaced high division ratio splitters.

Analysis of the quality and purity of optical connectors using a video microscope

The MT9083 reflectometer series supports three types of microscopes: OPTION-545 VIP (increase 200 and 400), G0293A (increase 400) and G0306A (magnification 400). These three microscopes differ in the number of standard attachments and magnification. With their help, you can evaluate the purity and quality of optical connectors. Connector end faces can be safely viewed and photos can be saved to document all aspects of the network. Anritsu has also added a pass/fail analysis to the standard features of the video microscope.
