DETAILED DESCRIPTION
When comparing the new heavy duty series ITECH IT6000C with the previous powerful series ITECH IT6500, we can note an increase in maximum voltage (up to 2250 V compared to 1000 V), an increase in maximum current (up to 2040 A compared to 1200 A) and a significant increase in maximum power (up to 144 kW for the IT6144C model and up to 1,152 kW with eight IT6144C models connected in parallel).
The IT6000C series parallel connection technology is patented by ITECH. It is based on the use of fiber optic connections, which provides galvanic isolation of control signals between individual units, eliminates parasitic pickups, "ground loops", etc. When several IT6000C series devices are connected in parallel in one system, calibration is not necessary.
The table below shows 69 models of the ITECH IT6000C series. Models differ from each other in maximum voltage, maximum current and maximum power. Please note that the 6kW, 12kW and 18kW models are housed in a compact 3U chassis measuring just 483 x 151 x 802mm.
Bidirectional Operation of ITECH IT6000C Series
All models of the ITECH IT6000C series can both give current and absorb it. This ensures a smooth transition between the generation mode and the absorption mode, without voltage and current surges, as well as other undesirable transients. In the generation mode, the power supply provides high energy efficiency (efficiency up to 95%). In absorption mode, high efficiency and savings are also ensured: due to recuperation, up to 95% of the absorbed energy is returned back to the power grid.
The bidirectional mode of operation is used when testing batteries, their protection devices, and in other tasks where a device connected to a power supply can both consume current and give it away.
Adjustable output impedance in ITECH IT6000C series models
All IT6000C high-power laboratory power supplies have the ability to provide a given value of its output resistance. The range of resistance change is from 0 to 1 ohm (the maximum resistance value depends on the specific model).
The ability of the power supply to accurately maintain the set value of its internal resistance is used in battery charge and discharge tests, since a real battery always has a finite internal resistance, which, moreover, depends on various parameters. Any IT6000C series power supply running the ITS5300 software can effectively handle these tasks.
The second area of application of the specified output resistance is related to the emulation of the operation of solar panels, which, like batteries, have a non-zero value of the output resistance. With this function, ITECH IT6000C series power supplies running SAS1000 software can accurately simulate various solar panel operation modes, which is widely used to test and tune inverters.
Simulation of solar panels
Powerful power supplies of the ITECH IT6000C series are great for testing solar power inverters, as they have all the necessary functions for this: high output voltage (up to 2250 V), controlled internal resistance, fast response to load changes and specialized ITECH SAS1000 software.
The ITECH SAS1000 software was specifically designed to simulate solar panels using the ITECH IT6000C series laboratory power supplies and ITECH IT6000B. With the SAS1000 software, you can effectively test all types of inverters and converters. The program allows you to check how well the inverter tunes to the maximum power point MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) when the state of the solar panels changes.
The ITECH SAS1000 program can perform static and dynamic performance testing of inverters and converters in accordance with standards: EN50530, Sandia, NB/T32004, CGC/GF004 and CGC/GF035. In addition to the standard "Table Mode" in which you can test against a table of exact values, the SAS1000 software also has a "Shadow Mode" that allows you to simulate the shading of an array of solar panels by clouds.
This screenshot shows the main window of the SAS1000 program in static test mode. At the bottom is an area where you can select one of three adjustable output voltages and one of eight adjustable output power levels (from 0 to 100%) with one click. The upper left graph shows the MPPT maximum power point corresponding to the given settings (yellow on the green graph of the current-voltage characteristic and blue on the red power graph).
Carrying out tests for compliance with automotive standards
All automotive electronics should work normally with dips and power surges caused by engine starts and stops, as well as sudden changes in engine speed while the car is moving. To unify such tests, various international standards are used: DIN40839, ISO 16750-2, ISO 21848, SAEJ1113-11 and LV124.
All models of ITECH IT6000C series contain a built-in set of test transients in full compliance with these standards, which allows you to quickly and efficiently test the operation of any automotive electrical equipment. Three standard voltages are supported: 12V, 24V and 48V.
Possibility to select stabilization priority
Rapid changes in the output voltage of the power supply, or rapid changes in the parameters of the load itself, can lead to unwanted transients, accompanied by jumps and dips in voltage and current.
To minimize these situations, users of the ITECH IT6000C series have the unique ability to control the feedback loop behavior of the power supply's output stabilization system. You can set stabilization priority: voltage or current. Do not confuse stabilization priority with stabilization mode - they are two different things. For example, on IT6000C series models, current stabilization can be prioritized even though the power supply is operating in voltage regulation (CV) mode. Conversely, you can turn on the power supply in current stabilization (CC) mode, but give the feedback loop of the output stabilization system priority of voltage stabilization.
The operation of this function is demonstrated below on two oscillograms. The upper yellow graph is the output voltage of the ITECH IT6000C series power supply, the vertical scale is 20 V per division. The lower green graph is the current flowing from the power supply to the load, the vertical scale is 25 A per division. In both cases, the power supply is programmed for voltage jumps, that is, it operates in the output voltage stabilization (CV) mode. But on the left graph is set to the standard voltage stabilization priority, and we see current surges in the load. And on the right graph is set current stabilization priority and load current surges immediately disappear.
Comparison of ITECH IT6000C series with two similar series: IT6000B and IT6000D
Simultaneously with a series of powerful bi-directional power supplies IT6000C ITECH released two very similar series (IT6000B and IT6000D), which differ from the IT6000C series in some features.
ITECH IT6000B Series contains all the functions of the IT6000C series, but in addition to them has a built-in electronic load with recovery of up to 95% of electricity, which allows the IT6000B series to perform various tests on the discharge of powerful batteries. But at the price of the IT6000B series models, they are significantly more expensive than the IT6000C series models of the same power.
ITECH IT6000D Series simpler than the IT6000C series in two main ways. Firstly, the IT6000D series can only supply current, but cannot consume it, that is, the IT6000D series is a classic power supply (without bidirectional mode) and, accordingly, there is no regeneration in it. Secondly, the IT6000D series does not have the ability to change its output impedance (it is always as low as possible), so it cannot emulate batteries, solar panels, and perform testing to automotive standards.
Due to the absence of some functions, the price of the IT6000D series is ten percent lower than that of the IT6000C series. Therefore, given such a small difference in price, it is always worth choosing the IT6000C series models, and only in case of particularly limited funding, consider similar models of the IT6000D series.
A comparison of the capabilities of the IT6000B, IT6000C, and IT6000D power supply series is shown in this table. You can download a full description of the characteristics of these three series below on this page in the section Documentation.
Design Features of ITECH IT6000C Heavy Duty Power Supply Series
The ITECH IT6000C series is characterized by very high power per unit volume of the case. The 6kW, 12kW, and 18kW models housed in a compact 3U chassis measuring just 483 x 151 x 802mm. Further, the increase in power comes in increments of 18 kW, which, accordingly, increases the height of the rack.
This photo shows the front view of the IT6018C-500-90 with a maximum voltage of 500V, a maximum current of 90A, and a maximum power of 18kW. The height of this case is 151 mm.
