Technical workshop "Equipment and technologies for testing fiber-optic and wired data transmission networks"

As part of the work on information and technical support in Ukraine for the development of advanced systems and methods of information transfer, on October 22, 2013, the company LLC "Tehencom" together with companies Fujikura (Japan), EXFO (Canada), Anritsu (Japan-USA) held in Kyiv free one-day workshop for technical specialists and their managers performing the following types of work:
- welding and installation of fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL) and information transmission systems;
- acceptance tests and certification of FOCL;
- FOCL maintenance, troubleshooting;
- network testing FTTx, PON;
- carrying out measurements on active optical networks using wavelengths of 1625 nm and 1650 nm;
- measurement of key network parameters Ethernet/IP, including quality parameters (SLA);
- EtherSAM (Y.156), RFC-2544, BERT measurements on Ethernet networks;
- measurement of key parameters of data transmission technologies xDSL / ADSL2+ / VDSL2;
- equipment of measuring and metrological laboratories.

During this technical seminar, the most modern equipment of the companies was presented Fujikura, EXFO, Anritsu, as well as the latest technologies for installation and testing:
- backbone networks;
- urban networks;
- PON/FTTx networks;
- Ethernet / IP networks;
- xDSL / ADSL2+ / VDSL2 data lines;
- structured cabling systems (SCS).

The seminar program included several sections, during which it was possible to practically work with the equipment and communicate directly with specialists from equipment manufacturers.

9:00-9:30 Registration of participants
9:30-11:30 Section 1: installation of fiber optic lines (Fujikura solutions).
Presentation of Fujikura's three latest devices: Models 80S, 19S, 12S - key benefits. Practical aspects of creating high-quality welded joints on both single and ribbon fibers. Common errors leading to poor weld quality as well as failures over time. Workshop on splicing various fiber types, including bend insensitive fibers (G.657). Fiber termination methods: pigtails, FuseConnect weldable connectors, FAST-Connect mechanical connectors.
The participants were shown welding equipment and given the opportunity to test it during installation.
11:30-12:00 Lunch
12:00-14:00 Section 2: testing of fiber optic lines (scatterometers, radiation sources, power meters, testers, optical microscopes from EXFO and Anritsu).
Theoretical and practical aspects of measurements of various types of fiber optic lines. Standard requirements for commissioning. New measuring equipment for FOCL by EXFO and Anritsu. Carrying out real reflectometric measurements and checking the quality of connectors using a video microscope. Features of PON measurements and testing of an active optical network. Analysis of measurement results and criteria for assessing the quality of various components of FOCL. Advanced FOCL analysis methods: dispersion measurement and optical spectrum analysis.
The participants were shown the measuring equipment and given the opportunity to try it out during measurements.

14:30-16:00 Section 3: Copper line testing (Ethernet / IP and xDSL analyzers, as well as measurement methods from EXFO and Anritsu).
Theoretical and practical aspects of measuring Ethernet networks from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps (LAN and WAN). EtherSAM (Y.156), RFC-2544, BERT measurements on Ethernet networks. Modern equipment for testing xDSL / ADSL2+ / VDSL2 data lines.
16:00-16:30 Questions from participants, practical recommendations from expert practitioners
16:30-17:30 Individual consultations of specialists, work with equipment, buffet
