Technical workshop on FOCL "Measuring and welding equipment for optical fiber of the world's leading manufacturers: Fujikura, EXFO, Anritsu"
As part of the work on information and technical support in Ukraine for the development of advanced systems and methods for transmitting information, on September 22, 2011, Tehencom LLC, together with companies Fujikura (Japan), EXFO (Canada), Anritsu (Japan-USA) held in Kiev a free one-day workshop for technical specialists performing the following types of work:
- welding and installation of fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL) and information transmission systems;
- acceptance tests and certification of FOCL;
- FOCL maintenance, troubleshooting;
- training of personnel to work with FOCL;
- equipment of measuring and metrological optical laboratories.

During this seminar, the specifics of installation and testing were considered:
- backbone networks;
- PON/FTTx networks;
- structured cabling systems (SCS) built using optical fiber.

9:00-9:30 Registration of participants
9:30-13:20 Fujikura automatic optical fiber splicers.
Presentation of Fujikura and the new structure of work in Ukraine. Practical aspects of creating high-quality welded joints on both single and ribbon fibers. Common errors leading to poor weld quality as well as failures over time. Master class welding various types of fibers. Modern dust-moisture-shock-resistant splicers for optical fiber from Fujikura.
The participants were shown welding equipment and given the opportunity to test it during installation.
13:50-17:00 Measuring equipment for working with FOCL: reflectometers (OTDR), radiation sources, power meters, testers, optical microscopes from EXFO and Anritsu.
Theoretical and practical aspects of measurements of various types of fiber optic lines. Standard requirements for commissioning. New measuring equipment for FOCL by EXFO and Anritsu. Conducting real reflectometric measurements, loss measurements and checking the quality of connectors using a video microscope. Interpretation of the obtained measurement results and criteria for assessing the quality of various FOCL components.
The participants were shown the measuring equipment and given the opportunity to try it out during measurements.
